5 Powerful Moves to A Perfect Golf Swing

Are you trying to change your golf swing forever to lower the scores on a golf game? Or confused about what you need to change to get a drop in the handicap? In fact, a perfect golf swing is definitely within your reach by watching how professional golf players perform on tournaments. Perhaps you might not be able to make a perfect golf swing like them, but you could steal several of their moves and achieve some great results.

Most of the best swings on every professional tour have something in common that makes them repeat efficiently. In other words, they would look different to a naked eye but, in fact, have more similarities than you know.

In this post, I will show you 5 important moves that you will see every professional golf players do on a downswing (but 99 percent of amateurs don’t). They will make you an exceptional ball-striker by making a perfect golf swing and keeping a solid contact with the ball every time.​

1. Leg Left Stacked on The Top of Your Shoulder

This is also considered as being in the neutral joint alignment, which is an essential position to get yourself in on a downswing. In this stance, your lead or left side should be stacked on the top of each other to get stability to the bottom part of a golf swing. Do not lean back the upper body to scoop the golf ball, otherwise, you would fall off balance on your front foot.

In general, this is a bio-mechanical and body-friendly position that you should practice for improving the consistency and preventing injuries on the golf course. When you are not doing this correctly, remember to draw a straight line through your shoulder, hip, and lead ankle. It is acceptable to have a little of tilt away from the target as long as you maintain the line through the lead side.

2. Forward Shaft Lean​

To make a good golf iron shots, it is important to have a forward shaft lean at impact. However, it is a little bit different with a driver as you are performing on less of the descending arc.

Ideally, every golf player wants his shaft to be parallel to the ground while his hands are reaching the rear thigh. From there, he is in a good position to hit the golf ball and his hands would reach the lead thigh at impact.

3. Pull from The Lead Side​

For most golf players, it might be easier said than done to make a forward shaft lean simply because they are often right-handed and push hard from the right in their downswing, which helps reduce lag and makes it hard to achieve any forward shaft lean.

Make sure that you are pulling from the lead or left side in during a downswing and doing very little with the right side.

A good way to practice this move is to train the left side separately by holding a golf club only in your left hand and making swings. Once you have mastered the technique, slowly bring back your right hand onto the golf club.​

4. Knuckles Facing Down

In all good golf iron shots, your lead or left knuckle should point down in an impact position. If not, it means that you have flipped or scooped your wrists in an effort to make the ball fly into the air.

Professional golf players know that to strike these well-compressed iron shots. In general, you need to point down the lead knuckle so the clubface hits the ball in a descending move.

5. Reduce The Degree of The Iron​

Most of the professional golf players use a pitching wedge that has 45 degrees of loft with upright sitting. However, you are obviously not going to make any good shots if this angle of attack is still maintained through the impact.

Your objective is to de-loft the club head to approximately 37 degrees so that you could hit the ball on the way down and get compression. Generally, you need to take a quite shallow divot in the size of a 1-dollar bill.

Putting it all together​

While achieving a perfect golf swing like professional golf players might seem impossible, you could copy their key downswing moves to improve your skills during a golf game.

Keep in mind to get the lead side stacked, pull from your lead side, get forward shaft lean, reduce the loft of the irons, and knuckles down.
